Location: Fully Remote

Job Type: Full time, exempt position.  This position will last until the end of 2026. 

 

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $135,000 - $165,000 per year

  • Benefits package from month following start date, including health, dental, vision, STD, LTD, and Life Insurance.  You will have multiple health plans to choose from and the option to insure your partner and/or dependents 

  • 401k plan

  • Paid Time Off: Standard federal holidays, 5 additional paid vacation days, and 3 flex/sick/personal days.  The 5 paid vacation days must be approved in advance by the Chief of Staff and can’t be taken from August – November 2026.  The 3 flex days can be taken any time

  • $1,500 one-time equipment set-up budget to procure equipment needed to perform the role remotely

  • Monthly phone stipend of $100

​About the Position

​

Battleground Alliance is looking for an experienced, nimble, and dedicated person to lead the Human Resources team as the organization grows ahead of the November elections.  This person will have grit, amazing organizational abilities, clear communications, and a true passion for making the staff and team love coming to work everyday.  This position will last until the end of 2026.

 

They will oversee the entire employee lifecycle, managing onboarding, performance, and compensation to support campaign goals. They will ensure legal compliance with labor laws, foster a positive, inclusive culture, and provide strategic leadership on employee relations. Key duties include team experience management, benefits, and conflict resolution.

Duties Include

The new Human Resources Director will divide their time among several functions. A general breakdown of the position’s primary responsibilities includes: 

​

  • Onboarding of campaign staff, including account creating, welcome emails, liaising with PEO, and onboarding calls

  • Collaborating with senior leadership to align HR strategies with campaign objectives and organizational goals.

  • Managing employee relations, addressing complaints, promoting inclusion, and enhancing retention.

  • Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, and managing personnel policies.

  • Managing performance evaluation processes and overseeing payroll and benefits administration including a lightweight performance review process appropriate for a campaign-cycle organization

  • Developing and monitoring the HR budget, including staffing costs and benefits

  • Develop and maintain HR policies, procedures, and an employee handbook tailored to the organization’s multi-entity structure and campaign cycle timeline

  • Handle sensitive personnel matters with discretion, including disciplinary actions and separations

  • Support a healthy, inclusive organizational culture across a distributed, remote team

  • With Operations Director, assist with management of relationships with PEO, payroll, and benefits vendors; serve as a second point of contact for employment administration

  • Coordinate required trainings such as anti-harassment, data security, and any state-mandated programs

  • Partner with leadership on team-wide communications related to HR policies, organizational changes, and staff support resources

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience: Proven experience as a HR Director or senior manager, in a campaign, coalition, or startup environment with 2-3 cycles of experience under your belt

  • Knowledge: Expertise in HR principles, labor laws, and employment practices especially across multiple states and  jurisdictions

  • Leadership: Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.

  • Time: Ability and willingness to work hours outside of normal business hours

  • Entities: Knowledge of how C3, C4, and PACs work together and independently

  • Hiring: Experience with hiring at scale, including high-volume, rapid-timeline recruitment
