MATTHEW MCCLELLAN
President, JMM Strategy Group
Matthew McClellan is the president of JMM Strategy Group - a boutique consulting firm serving progressive nonprofits, firms, foundations, and campaigns on organizational development, fundraising, strategic planning, and staffing.
Previous to founding JMM Strategy Group, Matthew served as the Director of Development for Equality Federation, the national strategic partner to the state-based LGBTQ movement. There, he diversified funding sources and increased the resources needed to accomplish the organization’s important goals.
McClellan was also the founder and Executive Director of the NCLR Action fund - working towards political empowerment and parity for the Latino community nationwide.
He brings over 20 years of nonprofit, campaign, and political experience to the table - starting his career with the Howard Dean presidential campaign, the John Kerry for President campaign, working for Speaker Christine Quinn at the NY City Council, and leading the surrogate program for Obama for America in Western Pennsylvania in 2008.
JMM Strategy Group has served campaigns from Governor’s races, to school board elections and worked with nonprofit and foundation clients in the environmental, LGBTQ, political, food justice, youth homelessness, youth, progressive faith, and gun control spaces as well as other consulting firms fighting the good fight.
Matthew attended Boston University, where he received a bachelor's degree in international relations and now lives in Washington, D.C. with his partner Yong and their dog, Ham. Matthew serves on the National LGBTQ+ Victory Fund Campaign Board as well as the DNC LGBTQ Advisory Committee. He is an avid urban gardener and hopes to one day be able to bake at a professional level. Until then, he enjoys eating his way to that goal.
