National Center for Transgender Equality - Major Donors Manager

Location: Washington DC based with remote work option within 4 hours travel to DC

Compensation & Benefits​

  • $60,000-70,000

  • Platinum-level health care plan with a zero deductible, which is 100% employer covered. Our plan covers transition-related care. Vision and dental insurance are also 100% covered. Spouses/partners and dependents can be added to health, vision and dental plans at their cost.

  • NCTE currently contributes 1% of each employee’s salary to a 403(b) retirement account regardless of whether the employee contributes, and also offers a match for up to an additional 2%.

  • Employees can deduct the cost of the Metro from their paychecks before taxes are deducted, which creates some savings on commuting expenses.

  • Employees are provided 10 days of sick time, all federal holidays, 3 days of personal leave, bereavement leave, volunteer leave, and annual vacation, which is initially 3 weeks and increases over time, or can start at a higher amount based on years of experience.

  • Primarily remote work - but required to live within 3.5 to 4 hours of Washington, DC

About the Position

​

The National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) seeks an experienced Major Gifts Manager to work with NCTE’s Development Director and Development team to manage and implement the organization's major gifts strategies, which includes event fundraising. The Major Gifts Manager will develop and execute strategies to steward, retain, and upgrade donors within the major gifts and Capital Club portfolios, as well as cultivate new donor relationships. Additionally, the Major Gifts Manager is responsible for conceptualizing and executing special events and related fundraising efforts, including NCTE’s annual signature event, the Trans Equality Awards, and several smaller, major donor events. This position will report to and work closely with the Development Director to ensure ample funds are generated to support NCTE’s mission. This position reports to the Development Director, is a remote position that is based within 4 hours of Washington, DC, and has occasional travel.

 

The National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) is a strong voice for transgender people in our nation’s capital. NCTE advocates for policy change at federal, state, and local levels and works to increase societal understanding and acceptance of transgender people. NCTE has a serious commitment to approaching and engaging in its work with an awareness of how racial and economic justice is intertwined with transgender justice, and a commitment to ensuring that policymakers and society understand the connection as well.

 

Launched in 2017, the National Center for Transgender Equality Action Fund (NCTE Action Fund) is a 501(c)(4) non-profit advocacy organization fighting for transgender equality at the local, state, and federal levels, affiliated with NCTE. The two organizations share office space and staff, including this position.

Duties Include

Major Donor and Capital Club Portfolio Management

  •  Lead strategy, solicitation and acquisition of major gifts ($5,000 and up) to NCTE and NCTE Action Fund.

  • Build and maintain relationships with Capital Club donors ($1,000 and up) to cultivate major gifts.

  •  Prospect potential major donors who could be added to the donor pipeline.

  • Travel to meet with donors as necessary.

  •  Maintain and strengthen relationships with current and prospective major and Capital Club donors, and the general community.

  •  Serve as a representative of NCTE, its board, and executive director to engage and solicit donors, prospects, and community.

 

Events Management

  • Work with the Development Director and Development Manager to conceptualize special events and related fundraising strategies.

  • Coordinate with consultants on the logistics and execution of all special events, including NCTE’s annual gala, the Trans Equality Now Awards.

  • Develop an annual small events calendar (approximately 5-10 per year), in partnership with the Development Director.

  • Engage NCTE’s board of directors in event implementation.

Skills and Qualifications

​

  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience as a fundraising professional in a nonprofit organization, working directly with major donors and planning large donor events.Experience with Raiser’s Edge, EveryAction, and/or Microsoft Office suite is a plus.

  • Track record of success: Demonstrated success in identifying and securing increased funds from current and prospective major donors through a coordinated, strategic approach.

  • Creativity and Innovation: Ability to see opportunities, think creatively, and develop new approaches for development.

  • Self-direction: Track record of taking initiative and working independently. Takes initiative and actively seeks to deepen current donor relationships and to forge new ones. Ability to be self-sufficient in a small staff environment.

  • Communications: Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising. Strong relationship building and “people” skills.

  • Collaborative Spirit: Ability to work with a team of hard-working, energetic professionals, taking input from a diverse group of colleagues, and exhibiting compassionate communication and project management.

  • Prioritization, Time Management and Detail Orientation: Excellent organizational and time-management skills, detail-oriented, including ability to manage multiple tasks independently. Ability to set and meet goals, prioritize, plan, manage, and complete work on deadlines.

  • Flexibility: Ability to shift one’s work and expectations given the nature of our work and how it can change quickly.

  • Understanding of Transgender Justice: An understanding of issues affecting transgender people as well as an understanding of how racism, classism and other systems of inter-connected oppressions affect trans people.

  • Understanding of Racial and Economic Justice: An understanding of racial and economic justice and how they coexist and interact with our mission of Transgender Justice.
